Scleral Lenses in Glendale
When standard contacts don’t meet your needs, a different lens design can make a meaningful difference. Scleral lenses create a smooth optical surface and a cushion of fluid over the front of your eye.
At Jewel City Optometry, your evaluation focuses on your eye health, vision, and comfort to determine whether this specialty lens is right for you.

A different kind of fit
Designed to rest beyond the cornea
Scleral lenses are larger, rigid gas-permeable contacts. Rather than resting on the cornea—the clear front surface of your eye—they vault over it and rest on the sclera, the white part of your eye.
A smooth viewing surface
The lens helps light focus more evenly when an irregular cornea causes blurred or distorted vision.
A fluid reservoir
Before insertion, the lens is filled with sterile, preservative-free saline. This fluid stays between the lens and cornea, keeping the covered surface hydrated during wear.
An individualized design
The lens shape and prescription are selected for your eyes, with adjustments guided by vision, comfort, and eye health.
Could scleral lenses fit your needs?
Scleral lenses are often considered for eyes that need more than a standard contact lens. Your evaluation looks at the shape of your cornea, the condition of your eye’s surface, and your experience with other vision correction.
Reasons to explore an evaluation
- Keratoconus or another irregular corneal shape affecting vision.
- Selected corneal changes after injury or surgery.
- Significant dry eye or other ocular surface needs requiring specialized care.
- Difficulty achieving comfortable, clear vision with standard contacts.
Not every eye needs a scleral lens. We assess whether the design, daily care routine, and expected benefits suit your individual needs.

Your fitting, step by step
A scleral lens fitting is a process, not just a prescription. Plan for an initial assessment, hands-on instruction, and follow-up visits to refine the fit and check how your eyes respond.
