A thoughtful plan for your child’s changing vision.
If your child’s distance vision is blurry or their prescription keeps changing, start with a personalized assessment. Dr. Arlene T. Yepremian, O.D., evaluates their vision and eye health to guide a conversation about managing nearsightedness as they grow.
Personalized assessment. Clear explanations. Ongoing monitoring.
Understanding myopia
Myopia, or nearsightedness, makes distant objects look blurry while nearby objects remain clearer. It often develops during childhood and can increase as the eyes grow.
Glasses correct blurred vision, but monitoring prescription changes is important, too. Higher levels of myopia are associated with a greater risk of certain eye conditions later in life. Regular exams help track those changes and inform care decisions.
Children do not always recognize or report blurry vision. An eye exam can identify changes even when your child has no complaints.
Assessment & candidacy
A myopia management discussion starts with an exam—not a one-size-fits-all treatment. Dr. Yepremian considers your child’s vision history, current findings, and daily routines when discussing next steps with you.
Comparing current and past prescriptions helps show how your child’s nearsightedness is changing.
Your child’s age and ability to follow a care routine help guide which approaches are appropriate.
An evaluation of vision and eye health helps determine candidacy and establish a baseline.
Knowing whether parents or siblings are nearsighted adds important context to your child’s assessment.
For your visit, bring your child’s current glasses and previous prescription records if you have them.
An assessment gives you a clearer picture of what comes next.
A plan that grows with your child
Myopia management aims to slow the progression of nearsightedness. It does not reverse myopia, and the response to treatment varies from child to child.
Your appointment is a chance to discuss which options fit your child’s findings, what daily care involves, and how progress will be evaluated. Recommendations are individualized rather than based on age or prescription alone.
Regular visits track prescription changes, eye health, and how your child is doing with their care. These findings guide whether the approach should continue or be adjusted.
