Optos Retinal Imaging in Glendale
A closer look at your retinal health gives your eye exam valuable context. Optos imaging helps document the back of your eye and makes it easier to understand what your doctor sees.
At Jewel City Optometry, Dr. Arlene T. Yepremian, O.D., considers retinal images alongside your examination, health history, and symptoms—not in place of them.
Understanding your eye health
What can retinal images show?
The retina is the light-sensitive tissue at the back of your eye. Retinal images record visible features of the retina, its blood vessels, and the optic nerve area. Your doctor reviews these details for signs that need closer evaluation.
A record of your eye health
Images document findings at a point in time and support comparison with future images when available.
A clearer conversation
Seeing an image can help you follow your doctor’s explanation and understand recommended next steps.
One part of the full picture
Imaging supports clinical assessment. It does not diagnose every eye condition or replace the other tests your eyes need.
What to expect during imaging
Our team explains the imaging process and guides you through positioning for the photographs. Let us know if you have difficulty holding a position or have concerns about the test so we can guide you comfortably.
- Share any vision changes, eye symptoms, and relevant health history.
- Follow the team’s directions while images are captured.
- Your doctor reviews the images with your exam findings and explains any follow-up needed.
Does Optos replace dilation?
Not always. Retinal imaging and a dilated examination provide different information. Even when images are taken, dilation may still be needed to evaluate your eye health thoroughly.
Dr. Yepremian recommends testing based on your symptoms, health history, risk factors, and exam findings. Some areas or findings need a closer examination that a photograph alone cannot provide.
If dilation is recommended, drops can temporarily cause light sensitivity and blurred near vision. Bring sunglasses and ask our team about planning your visit and transportation.
